Meet the Honorees

Retired Army Brigadier General Loree Sutton, MD was appointed by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio as Commissioner, Mayor’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs (MOVA)Proud to serve as the MOVA Commissioner, she believes New York City is an ideal place for Veterans, our nation’s leading renewable resource, to live, lead, serve and flourish.

Working anonymously, pasting his giant images on buildings, trains, bridges, the often-guerrilla artist JR forces us to see each other. Traveling to distant, often dangerous places — the slums of Kenya, the favelas of Brazil — he befriends inhabitants and recruits them as models and collaborators. With a 28mm wide-angle lens, the resulting portraits are unguarded, funny, soulful, real, that capture the sprits of individuals who normally go unseen.
